Overview:

The Military Benefits Advisor is responsible for all military document intake processes internally and externally at The Los Angeles Film School and branch campuses for the Department of Defense, the Department of Veteran Affairs and Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E). The Military Benefits Advisor will work closely with the military student population throughout the entirety of their program, adhering to the department's admission and semester certification processes. This position guides students in establishing and maintaining their VA eligibility by focusing on continual maintenance of the student's VA benefits file in accordance to VA regulations and deadlines. The Military Benefits Advisor, will assist the Veteran student beginning from the time they first enroll in a program, ultimately aiding in student retention and encouraging completion of their degree. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and conduct veteran registration/orientation experience.
  • Send introductory/instruction email for all prospective starts by the next working day from receiving their application.
  • Manage VA document intake and update process form.
  • Verify student's benefits with the VA to accurately provide packaging information by the first week of the start.
  • Update Campus Vue with document list based on the student's VA benefit eligibility by the first week of the start.
  • Accurately have set Front End activities as stated on the attached "Front End VA New student Intake" SOP by the next working day after verifying benefits and completely by the first week of start.
  • Manage/update intake document process including VA G2G tracking.
  • Verify student's benefits with the VA to accurately provide packaging information by the first week of the start.
  • Collect and manage all incoming documents sent by students and or admission representatives and update their receipt in Campus Vue by the following day.
  • Submit cost documentation to Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E).
  • Accurately have set Front End activities as stated on the attached "Front End VA New student Intake" SOP by the next working day after verifying benefits and completely by the first week of start.
  • Organize/create VA file for every student by the next working day after receiving their application.
  • Request JST transcripts by the next working day after verifying benefits and place in file as received. Email vets that will need to request their CCAF transcripts.
  • Assist students in the completion of all paperwork required by the institution and both process and manage veteran's education benefit paperwork in accordance with Federal and State guidelines.
  • Work closely in conjunction with other departments not limited to admission representatives, financial aid representatives, business office and management.
  • Serve as primary contact for questions/information and counsel VA students regarding veteran's education benefits and campus support services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree
  • Higher education experience working with Veterans, active-duty military, and their families
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Applicant must not currently be or have been in default on student loans

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum one-year experience working in a Veterans Center and/or in the role of a Certifying Official. Experience with VA-ONCE
  • Experience with CampusVue
  • Training in Veterans Affairs principles, practices and procedures through college coursework, seminars, or on-the-job training
  • Be able to communicate professionally and effectively with students through e-mail, in-bound/out-bound calls and during in-person office visits.
  • Respond to e-mails and voice messages from students and internal departments within 24-48 hours.
