Purpose: The Lead Audio Support Associate is responsible for providing operational and technical support to our students and our faculty in our Bachelor and Associate of Music and Audio Productions programs. This role will assist with audio equipment checkout for students and faculty who are working in Production and Project studios for recording sessions.   

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service for students, faculty, and staff, including tier 1 tech support for hardware and software.
  • Distribute equipment from ER lending inventory.
  • Ensure studios are scheduled for regular testing and cleaning.
  • Tier 2 Troubleshooting of studios and classrooms, including repair of cables, patch bays, and interconnects.
  • Tier 2 Mac, MacOS installation, licensing and troubleshooting,
  • Escalate and report any unresolved problems to relevant personnel, vendor and ticketing system.

 

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inventory control: Ensure that periodic inventory and audits occur. Report any losses or discrepancies.
  • Monitor reports of student policy violations to the relevant Program Director and LAFS Security.

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Work with instructors and support team to ensure proper equipment use, as well as collaborate on future needs.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Enforce Equipment Room standards and policies
  • Oversee and schedule Audio Support Associates
  • Verifys accurate records of equipment check-ins and outs

 

Competencies/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to read circuit schematics and understand nuances of electrical components common in audio gear.
  • Strong knowledge of analog signal flow, audio test gear, and standard industry wiring and equipment installation conventions is required.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment interacting with a diverse group of users.
  • Good communication and organization skills, both written and verbal.
  • Detail oriented, self-starter, with a friendly, positive attitude.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with staff, faculty, and students.

 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of experience with professional audio equipment repair and installation, including soldering and cable making.
  • Experience with, and an understanding of analog audio gear such as outboard preamps, effect processors and large format recording consoles (API, Neve, and SSL.)
  • Audio recording and production background/experience.
  • Production sound, post-production audio, video/sync/timecode experience
  • Minimum three years of Supervisory Experience

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  

  • Avid Pro Tools Logic Pro and or Ableton – Certifications a plus

 

Computer Skills:

  • Deep understanding of the Mac OS platform and troubleshooting in Logic, Pro Tools and other DAWs.
  • Wired and Wireless LAN/WAN network troubleshooting.
  • Intermediate skill level with MS Office, with emphasis on Excel and Project.
  • Familiarity with helpdesk ticketing systems.

  • Use one or two hands to grasp, move, and assemble studio equipment
  • Physical ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
  • Hearing and speech to communicate in person, by telephone, or through virtual meetings

  • Stress may be caused by having to prioritize multiple projects at one time, dealing with patrons who exhibit negative behavior, and last minute requests.
