Purpose:

The Los Angeles Film School is conducting a search for an Industry Relations Associate for their Entertainment Business programs. This Industry Relations Associate is a key strategic role that will own relationships with entertainment companies in an effort to grow and maintain LAFS's presence as a premiere source of new and emerging talent, cultivate opportunities for graduates, and create impactful, career-focused programming for the LAFS community. Our ideal candidate is a polished, results-oriented, personable professional with a wide depth of industry knowledge as well as established contacts in the industry.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Explore the entertainment industry for junior-level roles and initiatives for our on-ground and online graduates and students nationwide. Bring and document those opportunities into the company's internal job database. 

• Work closely with Career Advisors to vet graduates, cultivate resume database, and align appropriate opportunities for graduates.

• Harness your industry experience to build exclusive pipelines with recruiters and hiring managers, show runners, studio managers, agents, Diversity and Inclusion specialists, etc. 

• Outreach to veteran's organizations like Veterans in Entertainment Media (VME) to assist in placing our large cohort of military veterans. 

• Daily monitoring and indexing of various job boards to meet weekly quota of job postings and build new relationships. 

• Act as primary point person working directly with our Education Department in finding and vetting paid and non-paid internships.

• Screen candidate resumes and application materials, conduct pre-interviews and filter candidates for submission to curated job leads and partner employers.

• Collaborate with other teams within the Career Development department, and across the organization to ensure quality outcomes for our graduates as well as our employers and strategic partners.

• Secure industry professionals as guest speakers for Career Development and School events; Moderate Q & A sessions, as needed.

• Maintain contact with graduates; deliver accurate data related to the careers and employment of graduates; assist with the collection of requisite documentation of graduate employment, as defined by regulatory and state guidelines.

• Conduct orientation, vetting, and/or prep with students and graduates as it relates to employment opportunities. Educate and assist students with career search practices. 

• Maintain weekly hybrid office hours to establish/maintain relationships with students and faculty.

 

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Represent LAFS at industry seminars, conventions, events, and conferences (as requested).

• Maintain weekly hybrid office hours to establish/maintain relationships with students and faculty.

• Attend/participate in graduation rehearsals and graduation ceremonies, as needed.

• Represent the Career Development Department to prospective students at Open House presentations (two Saturdays per year).

Competencies/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Vast understanding of Music, Film, Television, Public Relations, Marketing, and Social Media Industries.

• Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; great phone manner is a must.

• Ability to interpret and analyze data, and then build strategies based on that data.

• Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse student population.

• Position requires discretion, patience, compassion, confidentiality, and tactful issue resolution.

• Strong organizational skills, including time management, multi-tasking, and follow-through.

• Ability to work well under pressure, meet multiple, quick deadlines, and handle shifting priorities.

• Ability to remain current on industry trends, technology, craft, and hiring trends.

• Ability to take initiative and work independently, as well as part of a team.

 

Education and/or Experience:

• Minimum 5 years' experience in the Entertainment Business industry.

• Established network of industry contacts.

• Bachelor's degree, preferred.

• Teaching/coaching/advisement and/or public speaking, preferred.

• Previous experience hiring, onboarding, or recruiting, preferred. 

• Professional experience at an agency or in marketing/social media, preferred.

Computer Skills:

• Strong proficiency with PC and Mac (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Keynote); ability to learn new programs as required.
